January 2014

I have a few students that really sparkled in January.

1) Ben Ostrem went on tour with Central College Symphonic Wind Ensemble to Dallas, TX playing in the trumpet section.

2) Terra Hill made 1st chair Euphonium at the SEIBA Honor Band.

3) Raiden T. from Solon High School made a superior rating on his solo scoring 34 out of a 35 possible points.

2013 All-State audition

Congratulations to Ben Ostrem for his successful Iowa all-state audition on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Ben has studied euphonium with me since the fall of 2012 through the Central Music Academy of Central College in Pella, IA. He has come a long way in a short amount of time. He started band in January of 2012 and now is a junior at Montezuma High School and also performs with SWE (Central College’s wind ensemble).

Another Congratulations also goes out to a my new student, Terra Hill, who is a sophomore at Iowa City West High School. She was awarded first alternate on euphonium on Saturday’s all-state audition. Before studying with me she gained a firm foundation with Robbie Med and now I am happy to help her grow in her musical journey of excellence.

Eric Karr had a successful round of auditions for Luther College and the University of Northern Iowa. He performed Guilmant’s Morceau Symphonique and von Weber’s Romance. Eric also scored a superior rating on his solo at Solon High School’s solo and ensemble festival performing Romance, and runner-up for “Best in Center.”

Raiden Takeuchi earned a superior rating performing the first two movements of Telemann F minor Sonata at Solon High School’s solo and ensemble festival.
